What reasoning levels are
Reasoning levels let you choose, for each Build prompt, how much planning and checking QuantCAD AI does: Low, Medium, High or Max. Lower levels finish sooner and can use fewer credits. Higher levels plan more deeply and spend more effort on detail and checks. High is the default. Low, Medium and High are on every plan, and Max is included with Pro and Business.
The level applies to Build prompts in auto and manual mode, both for new products and for changes to existing ones. Ask mode is not affected and costs the same at every level.
The four levels
| Level | What changes | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Low | Lighter planning. In Build auto mode it aims for fewer parts and runs one round of checks. The fastest runs and the fewest credits. | Single parts and quick changes, such as a bracket, a spacer or a mounting plate. |
| Medium | Slightly less planning depth than High, with the same building and checks. | Everyday parts and smaller assemblies, when you want a balance of speed and detail. |
| High | Full planning depth. In Build auto mode, a detailed assembly with several rounds of checks and rework. The default. | Most products, including multi-part assemblies. |
| Max | The deepest planning. In Build auto mode, more room for the layout and the detail of each part. Included with Pro and Business. | Large or complex products with many internal parts, mechanisms or tight fits. |
Choosing a level
- • Start with High. It gives the best results for most builds, from a single part to a full assembly.
- • Use Low for speed. Simple parts, small edits and early ideas you want to see quickly rarely need more.
- • Use Max for the hardest products. Large assemblies with many internal parts, moving mechanisms or tight fits benefit most from the extra planning.
- • Change it per prompt. A product can be built at High and then refined with small edits at Low, or the other way round.
Setting the level
Open the QuantCAD AI control
In the prompt box, next to the mode menu, click QuantCAD AI. It shows the current level, for example QuantCAD AI · High.
Choose a level
Drag the slider to Low, Medium, High or Max. The panel describes each level as you move between them.
Send your Build prompt
The prompt runs at the level you chose. Your choice is remembered in that browser for your next prompts and products.
The control is turned off in Ask mode. On the Free plan you can preview Max, and the slider returns to High when you let go. Max is included with Pro and Business.
Credits
The published credit costs are at the default level, High. Low and Medium reasoning can use fewer credits than the default High, and Max, on Pro and Business, uses more. The Usage page in your dashboard shows what you have spent. See Credits & Plans for the cost of each kind of prompt.
