Workspace

Action Bar

The Action Bar is the workspace toolbar — every operation you can run on the current model lives here.

Last updated

Overview

Every product workspace shows the Action Bar next to the 3D viewer. It groups related actions into menus so the surface stays compact. Hover any tool for its tooltip; click to expand a menu.

Selection & visibility

  • • Select — click a part, face or edge to select it. The bounding box readout updates to reflect the selection.
  • • Hide / Show:
    • – Hide Selected temporarily removes the current selection from the viewer.
    • – Show All brings every hidden item back.

View controls

Reset View

Returns the camera to a default framing of the entire model.

Projection

Toggle between Perspective and Orthographic. Use Orthographic when you want accurate side-by-side comparisons without foreshortening.

Camera Views

Snap the camera to one of six axis-aligned presets: Top, Bottom, Left, Right, Front, Back.

Grid & Axes

Toggle Grid shows or hides the reference grid. Toggle Axes shows or hides the orientation gizmo. QuantCAD uses a Z-up convention, matching common CAD packages.

Measurements

Open the Measurements menu to run any of the following — results draw directly on the viewer:

  • • Point Distance — straight-line distance between two clicked points.
  • • Distance Between — distance between two selected entities.
  • • Length — length of a selected edge (lines, arcs and curves).
  • • Angle — angle between two edges or faces.
  • • Target / Snap — toggle snap-to-feature for more accurate measurements.

Manage your measurement annotations with:

  • • Save Current Mark — pin the current measurement so it stays on screen.
  • • Clear Current — remove only the current measurement.
  • • Clear All Marks — remove every saved measurement.

Geometry readouts

The Bounding Box menu shows the overall X/Y/Z extents of the current selection (or the whole model when nothing is selected).

Clipping plane

Use the clipping plane to slice through the model and reveal interior features without changing the geometry:

  1. 1. Open the Clipping Plane menu and enable the plane.
  2. 2. Pick its orientation: X, Y, or Z.
  3. 3. Set the Position in model units (the same units used for the generated geometry).
  4. 4. Disable the plane when you're done to restore the full view.

Downloads

The Download menu offers four options:

STL File

Triangulated mesh for 3D printing or visualization. Quality presets are available on the Data Management page.

STEP File

B-rep CAD interchange format. Use this for downstream CAD work.

PNG Screenshot

Lossless image of the current viewer.

JPG Screenshot

Compressed image of the current viewer for quick sharing.

See File Formats for guidance on choosing STEP vs STL.

Settings

The Settings menu controls how measurements are displayed:

  • • Length units: mm, cm, or in.
  • • Angle units: deg or rad.
Underlying geometry is stored in model units. Changing display units is a presentation choice and does not modify your model.

Show / hide the Action Bar

Use the collapse control to Hide action bar when you want maximum viewer real estate, then Show action bar to bring it back.
