Quickstart

Create your account, generate your first product, and export it. All in five short steps.

Last updated

1. Create your account

Sign up at /sign-up with no credit card required. The Free plan grants 5 daily credits (up to 25 per month) for your first 2 months, plus a 5-credit signup bonus.

Sign-in and sign-up options depend on what's enabled for your instance (Clerk handles authentication). After signing in you'll land on the Dashboard.

2. Open New Product

From the dashboard sidebar, click New Product. The page asks “What do you want to build?” - this is where you write your first prompt.

New products are always created in Build mode. Ask mode becomes available once the product exists and you continue the conversation.

3. Write a clear prompt

The more specific your description, the better the result. Include overall dimensions, wall thickness, holes, fillets and any standard sizes you care about.

Examples

✓ GOOD — concrete and specific

A wall-mount bracket, 80 mm wide x 60 mm tall x 4 mm thick.
Two M4 through-holes 60 mm apart, 10 mm from the bottom edge.
Add a 5 mm fillet on the outer corners.

✓ GOOD — clear enclosure

A rectangular enclosure 100 x 60 x 40 mm with 2 mm walls,
a 9 x 3 mm USB-C cutout centered on the short side,
and four M3 standoffs (5 mm tall) inside the bottom face.

✗ AVOID — vague

Make a box, kind of big, with some holes

Missing sizes, hole spec, and any orientation cues.

Press ⌘ Enter (or Ctrl Enter) to submit. QuantCAD reserves the credit cost for the run and starts generating.

4. Review in the 3D viewer

When the run completes you'll see your product in the 3D viewer with the Action Bar on the side. Use it to:

  • • Rotate, pan and zoom (left-drag, right-drag, scroll-wheel)
  • • Toggle Perspective ↔ Orthographic
  • • Snap to Top, Bottom, Left, Right, Front, Back camera presets
  • • Run measurements: point distance, edge length, angle, bounding box
  • • Activate a clipping plane (X, Y or Z) to inspect interior features

See the full list on the Action Bar page.

5. Iterate with Build & Ask

Continue the conversation to refine the design. Use the mode switcher in the chat input to choose between:

Build mode

Modifies the model. Each Build prompt becomes a new revision in the product's history. Cost scales with the size of the change.

Ask mode

Asks a question without changing the model. Costs less than Build, useful for sanity checks and exploration.

Example follow-up prompts

Build: "Increase the wall thickness from 2 mm to 3 mm."
Build: "Add a 10 mm diameter hole centered on the top face."
Build: "Round all outer edges with a 2 mm fillet."
Ask: "What is the bounding box of this part?"
Ask: "Will this fit a standard 18650 cell?"
Need to revisit an earlier version? Open the Versions menu in the workspace header to switch between revisions, or create a Full Revision to fork the design into a new product.

6. Export your design

From the workspace Download menu (in the Action Bar) you can export:

STEP

Industry-standard B-rep format for downstream CAD work.

Opens cleanly in Fusion 360, SolidWorks, FreeCAD, Onshape and most other CAD tools.

STL

Triangulated mesh for 3D printing and visualization, with Draft, Normal and High quality presets.

Opens in Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, etc.

You can also download PNG or JPG screenshots of the current view, or manage past exports from Export Management in the dashboard sidebar.
